Patrick must have died before because the census shows an Elizabeth Mahaffey as a widow and with sons Patrick and Joseph and because his brother Thomas's obit in mentions that he was survived only by his brother Jerome and his sister Elizabeth. It shows she was born in Feb and that in she was a widow. In April , Elizabeth wanted to sell some property and needed sign-offs from her children to do so. So she petitioned the court for the right to be designated as guardian and to act on behalf of her minor children Edward and John who were under age and Patrick H who was designate as "insane".
Edward and John signed a document on this action and Elizabeth was granted the request to act on behalf of Patrick. This property is designated as being in Wilkesville, Vinton County. Since the census records indicates that Patrick and Elizabeth had 11 children in all and since neither Neal nor Cornelius are mentioned in this action, it is believed they died in infancy.
