Dare I suggest, even on the Dublin board that people will be friendliest outside of the capital city? I think that Irish people are still very friendly and always willing to help others. I think that you might have difficulty developing that apparent friendship into something a bit deeper. This is not to say that we are a shallow race of people. We will always chat and genuinely help others but I still think that we like to keep our distance all the same.

Yes i think we are a friendly bunch. Although i have to agree about us becoming less friendly in recent years. Im a dubliner but am now living in the country so i know what people are talking about. This doesnt seem to be the case in Dublin anymore which is a shame. I have travelled to a few countries and even though i wouldnt call us the friendliest place ever i still think we are more pleasant and genuine by far. If someone talks to you in a shop its because they want to not because they feel they are expected to! Unfortunatley we tend to talk more about everyday things like house prices and politics as opposed to fairytales those days have long gone!

I was getting the bus to the city centre the other day and someone asked me for directions. Before he knew it everyone was telling him where to go and one offered to bring him there when he got off.
